As part of the British Invasion Tour, AbelCine has partnered with Geoff Boyle to present, RAW Formats, Shooting, Workflow and Post. From acquisition to on-set media management to post processes, this two-day workshop is for anyone interested in RAW workflow. We will cover all RAW camera systems on the market today, including but not limited to, Arri ALEXA, BlackMagic Digital Cinema Camera, Canon C500, Sony F65, and the Red EPIC. Post systems include SpeedGrade, Resolve, RedCineX and more.
Part lecture style and part hands-on, this class covers a basic understanding of RAW formats, the difference between Looks and LUTs, and an overview of rushes and approaches to shooting and finishing in post. For the hands-on portion, we will shoot our own sequences and demonstrate look generation and grading with the footage that we shoot in class. AbelCine Experts will also join the workshop with presentation on a variety of related topics and camera demonstrations. Students are ask to bring a laptop and portable storage to the class. Everyone will leave with Raw footage to test.

Geoff Boyle is an accomplished Cinematographer, Instructor, and the founder of CML. Along with many other cinematographers, Geoff consulted with Sony in the early 80’s on HD. His move to Log was due to him working with Phillips on the launch of the Viper in NAB and Cannes in 2002 and shooting the material use for that launch. Suddenly he saw a way that digital images could work. Since then he has shot feature films, TV series and commercials both Log and RAW, pushing the technology as far as he could and often using prototype cameras. He has shot with all the major Log and RAW systems that are available and continues to work with manufacturers in the development of new equipment. Currently he is not allowed to say what camera manufacturers he is working with as his NDA’s even prevent him from telling anyone that he has signed an NDA with the companies! He is currently Alpha testing digital recorders for Convergent Design and beta testing on-set/near-set software for Adobe, Blackmagic and GVG. He has been a user/beta tester of onset grading and LUT generation software since 2005.
